44 reviewsThe Flavel is the beating heart of entertainment in the South Hams: with cinema, regular live music, theatre, cafe, art gallery, youth drama, venue and event hire, art workshops, wellbeing clubs and classes – our programme has something for absolutely everyone. We also run event cinema titles, including the Royal Ballet & Opera and National Theatre Live.
We are the home of Folk @ The Flavel, Dartmouth Comedy Club and the International Classical Series of Concerts. In 2024 we are hosting the first ever Dartmouth Book Festival, and the Dartmouth Beer Festival, we are one of the venues for Dartmouth Food Festival, and we are a Festival Partner and one of the main venues for the famous Dartmouth Music Festival.
In 2025 we will be welcoming the tribute band “Fleetwood Mac Songbook”, rated as one of the Top 20 Tribute Artists and Bands in the World. We will also be hosting Clare Teal and Jason Rebello, and in March Martin Turner (Ex Wishbone Ash).
We hold regular art workshops with Helena Clews, including life drawing and painting. During school holidays we screen children’s film matinees, and host fun activities and workshops. In December 2024 we are presenting Matilda the Musical Jnr from the Dartmouth Community Children’s Theatre Group.
We are a multi-purpose venue including a 176-seat cinema/theatre, art gallery, a busy café and a fully stocked licensed bar. We also have various rooms which can be hired for private functions, parties, meetings, fitness classes and/or rehearsal spaces.
You can hire the cinema for your own private cinema party (you choose the film) or hire our auditorium for a private function seating up to 100 guests.
Located in central Dartmouth, within a short walk of the main car park, our venue is fully accessible with an entrance ramp, a lift to all floors and disabled toilets.
For live events and cinema screenings, prices vary and are advertised on our website booking page. For corporate events and room bookings please contact info@theflavel.org.uk or call 081803 839530

Dartmouth is a beautiful waterside town, with gorgeous independent shops, and quaint narrow streets, but is easily accessible by car. The Flavel is located in the centre of town, in Flavel Place, a short 1-minute walk from the main town car park in Mayor’s Avenue, and with public on-street parking for about 20 cars immediately outside the building. In high season (from 25 March to 31 October) the main car park is limited to a maximum of 4 hours.
On street parking on the North Embankment is free all day from 1 October to 30 April. Between 1 May to 30 September most on-street parking is limited to one or two hours.
Dartmouth is approximately 14 miles (30 minutes’ drive) from Totnes, and approximately 8 miles (40 minutes including a short ferry crossing) from Paignton and Torquay.
The Park and Ride Bus operates from the car park at the top of town, by the leisure centre, from 25 March until 31 October.
