Nestled on the western edge of Dartmoor National Park is the ancient town of Tavistock.
Tavistock is a friendly town that welcomes any visitor whether for a few hours, the day or for a holiday. The streets are home to a wonderful array of local independent shops providing the perfect place to pick up a gift or souvenir from your holidays.
One of the places not to be missed in the town and is always well worth a visit is the famous pannier market. The indoor market has been running for over 900 years with a mix of permanent traders whose stalls are open 5 days a week and daily stalls which change depending on the daily theme.
The town is an ancient stannary town and is possesses UNESCO World Heritage Site status, which makes it an extra special place to visit in South Devon. The history of the Tavistock can be seen all around in the towns wonderful architecture and can be followed on the towns heritage trails or on an historian lead walking tour.
Tavistock is surrounded by stunning scenery which can be explored on one of the many walking and cycling trails leading to and from the town, including Drakes Trail which links Travistock to Plymouth and the Tamar Trails, dedicated off-road mountain biking trails.
