Don’t worry if you want a relaxing holiday to South Devon but don’t want to feel like you’re missing out on the action or you want to mix a more active section in to your break. With lots of regattas and sporting events being held across the region there are plenty of opportunities to let someone else do the hard work, while you just sit back and relax, spectating from the side lines or join in and show them how it’s done.
South Devon is home to two race courses, one with a summer events programme and one with a winter programme, plus a variety of rugby and football grounds where home games can be caught. So there is always some kind of live sports taking place for any sports fan to enjoy.
But if you’d like to do more than just cheer on the participants there are many races and competitions which are open to everyone, whether it’s through pre-registration or on the day participation, giving you the chance to get in on the action. From cycling and running races, Pilates, yoga or even a Triathlon there’s an event for even the most active of visitor.
Regattas are an important part of coastal town life and this is no exception in Devon. A regatta offers you the chance to watch a mixture of water based races, from sailing to rowing, as well as enjoying the land based festivities which run alongside. Many also incorporate air shows and fireworks displays making them a great day out for all the family. And with the coastline running the entire length of the county it’s not surprising that there are a few regattas held in the region.
So enjoy a more competitive holiday to South Devon and check out the below list of sporting events and regattas taking places across the region. The list can be sorted by location or date to let you search by when you are planning on visiting.
