Powderkeg are Devon's craft beer experts, established by husband and wife team John and Jess Magill in 2015. Focused on making sessionable craft brews, our mission is to make quality local beer the obvious choice for everyone –craft aficionados and casual drinkers alike.
After only 6 months in business we were awarded the ‘World’s Best Lager’ medal at the IWSC Beer Awards, and the awards haven’t stopped flowing since! Best Low-alcohol Pale, 3* Great Taste, Food and Drink Product of the Year, and a raft of gold, silver and bronze medals attest to our flavoursome beers and meticulous brewing process.
Our success is down to our small but mighty team of free-thinking beer obsessives carving our own path. Many years honing our skills have given us the expert brewing knowledge to break the rules with a bit of style; making beers that really satisfy our curiosity, creativity and thirst.
At Powderkeg, we look beyond established ideas to revolutionise a style, creating something fresh, interesting and always outstanding.
In Cut Loose, a classic German-style Pilsner is re-imagined by pepping it up with New Zealand hops; it’s a great example of how moving beyond tradition can elevate a beer beyond expectations.
Speak Easy is one of Devon’s favourite pale ales, bringing malty balance to the stacks of fruity US hops.
Green Light is a uniquely full-flavoured low-alcohol beer with tropical hop notes, that has seen it win three gold medals as well as legions of fans who love the lifestyle possibilities it offers.
Harmony is our session lager; simple elements, expertly orchestrated to create a perfectly tuned, crisp session lager.
We have a range of specials throughout the year, see our website for more details.
Our beers are also Gluten-Free and Vegan for maximum accessibility.
We are proud to be part of the landscape of incredible food and drink producers that wow visitors to Devon. It’s often these artisans who drive innovation and excellence, so seek out and support those small businesses and enjoy their unique offerings.
“This summer, support independent producers” says Powderkeg owner John. “The quality and flavour you want is out there, made by someone close to wherever you are right now. Think before you drink - seek out local brews and support the businesses that champion them. They really are the beating heart of the industry.”
Be curious. Think fresh. Drink Powderkeg.
