Sidmouth Beach is a beautiful expanse of sand and shingle beach, clean, accessible, and surrounded by awe inspring cliffs that make the beach feel very secluded. Sidmouth is known as the gateway to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Sidmouth town beach is your typical seaside town beach, with a lovely promenade to walk across, colourful beach-facing buildings, and a lovely shingle beach.
When the tide is low, rich red sand and fasinating rock pools are exposed, perfect for families to spend a day exploring, and the iconic red cliffs of East Devon will make a lovely view whilst you kick back in the sun. At the eastern end of the town beach, there's a slipway which gives boats access to the sea, and at the western end kayaks and canoes are available for hire. Please note that there is no lifeguard present at this beach, and bouys are marked to show where swimming is permitted and safe.
Just down from Sidmouth Beach is Jacobs Ladder is a series of wooden steps leading from the beach up to Connaught Gardens - which provides beautiful views of the coastline below. Jacob's Ladder Beach is mostly a pebble beach at the western end of Sidmouth's town beach. You can read more about Jacob's Ladder Beach here.
The many Regency buildings of Sidmouth add elegance and distinction to the Esplanade which runs the full length of the beach, alongside majestic cliffs.
There is a good level of disabled access and facilities onto the beach, and local cafe's and restaurants are nearby.
Dogs are welcome all year on a small area at the east end of the beach.
