The exhibition Footprints consists of photographs that were previously entered into one of our four photographic competitions. Launched by The Photographic Angle in 2010, Footprints was designed to promote a greater sense of awareness of man’s unprecedented impact on the environment.
The four different themes ̶ Flow, Change, Contrast and Serenity ̶ inspired photographers to present their environmental concerns and to highlight many of the global environmental issues challenging us today.
The images on display in this exhibition originate from all over the world. This gives the exhibition the broadest range of perspectives, and overcomes local political and cultural bias regarding environmental degradation.
Flow
Judged by Steve Bloom, the theme Flow gave photographers the opportunity to capture motion in their image as a means of highlighting the speed at which we are being confronted with the environmental impact of our lifestyles.
Change
The entries for Change reflected the widespread concerns regarding our changing landscape and the human impact on flora and fauna. This competition was judged by Ann Miles.
Contrast
Many Contrast entrants choose to use photographic tonal contrast to increase their image’s visual impact, thereby strengthening its message. Steve Bloom was the judge for this competition.
Serenity
Adrian Stone, judging Serenity, noted that many of these photographs captured aesthetic locations as yet protected from industrialisation. These emphasise the part our immediate environment

Venue
Clyst House is located just outside Exeter in the area of Clyst St Mary. The building is a large site that can be accessed from 2 directions, however to access the exhibition we advise leaving the roundabout off the M5 and joining the A3052. From here, take the first right onto Church Lane, and drive to the end where you will see a little church. The building entrance is through a metal gate on the left hand side, just before the church. Once through the gate, you will walk along a covered walkway which veers slightly to the left. The building is then directly in front of you.
Our gallery attendant is located in the entrance foyer where you enter the building. They will happily show you around and answer any questions you may have onsite.
