Spend a leisurely afternoon exploring the Historic Quayside, just a ten-minute walk from Exeter Cathedral, and take a stroll along the canal past quaint antique shops, art exhibitions, local bars and lively waterside restaurants. You can even hire a kayak or paddle board to use on the canal if you’re feeling more adventurous!

Exeter is passionate about its sport and is perfectly located for making the most of the great outdoors. As well as Sandy Park for rugby, there is St James’ Park for football and Exeter Racecourse for competitive racing. The city is also home to the South West’s largest indoor climbing wall at the Quay Climbing Centre and Europe’s first Clip n’ Climb centre. 

If you’re after a break from city life head to Haldon Forest, on the outskirts of Exeter. Here you will find woodland trails to enjoy by foot or bike, wonderful views across the Devonshire countryside and Go Ape! where you can swing through the trees and enjoy the forest from a different perspective.

Just 10 miles from Exeter and you will reach the South Devon coast. The South Devon coastline is truly beautiful and varied – take a walk on the South West Coast Path, or spend a day on one of the many South Devon beaches. Many of our beaches have awards for water and beach quality, and a great swathe of the coastline is under the protection of a National Landscape or the National Trust.

Stretching to the east is the Jurassic Coast, more than thirty miles of stunning UNESCO World Heritage Coastline, part of the 95 miles charting 185 million years of the Earth's history. Visit the oldest seaside town in Devon, Exmouth, boasting two miles of sandy beach, and is the gateway to the World Heritage Jurassic Coast

Most of the area is designated a National Landscapes – East Devon National Landscape and the Blackdown Hills National Landscape. Both are rural paradises, rich in history with stunning countryside landscapes and farmland.
