Christmas is just around the corner and the Positive People team are getting festive by holding Christmas crafting workshops across Devon. The Positive People project is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund and aims to help people get socially and digitally connected.

In these free workshops, participants can get involved with a range of activities including making wreaths and snow globes, designing Christmas cards and T-shirts and making their own tree decorations. At some venues, there is also the opportunity to try out cake decorating and build a Virtual Reality headset. All of these gifts can be taken home at the end of the day to give to loved ones (or keep for yourself if you like!) at no charge. In Tiverton, they are holding a stop-animation workshop, involving parents and children of Wilcombe Primary School. The events also include free food and refreshments for all participants. They are open to anyone who wants to get involved.

Vicky Moss-Crump is Project Manager at Cosmic, one of the partners involved in the events. She says "These workshops provide a great opportunity for people to try something new and get in the mood for Christmas. In 2016, the average household spent £753 on Christmas presents. We want to show people that you don't need to spend lots of money to give great gifts. This gives everybody the chance to celebrate Christmas."

Positive People aims to help people to overcome social exclusion, develop their confidence, develop skills and get back into education, training or work. Through holding these Christmas events, the team behind the project believe they will help those on the Positive People programme to get involved with their local communities, develop relationships and learn new skills. The team also aims to raise awareness about the project to new people and services, helping everyone to get involved.
