Candlelit Dartmouth returns once more to launch the festive season. On Friday 27th November 2020 at 4pm the Christmas Market centred in the town’s Royal Avenue Gardens offers a wide array of fabulous Christmas gift ideas. Musicians and entertainers will add to the seasonal atmosphere both in the Gardens and around town.
Hordes of excited families crowd round the Boatfloat eagerly waiting to see Father Christmas arrive by boat bringing his sack of goodies for the children. Festivities continue until 8pm with music and street entertainment.
The market, music and entertainment all resume at 10am. Santa will be in his Grotto in the Flavel Hall which will also host seasonal workshops for both adults and children. Many shops will be open late during the weekend and with so many independent retailers in town it’s an ideal opportunity to purchase those special Christmas gifts.
The weekend finale begins at 5.00pm on Saturday when the traditional lantern procession leaves the Old Market. This year’s procession will be led by a large Mayflower Lantern followed by small boat lanterns and hundreds of willow and tissue lanterns made by local school children and adults in specially organised workshops create an amazing spectacle as they are paraded through the town’s historic streets.
Around 6.00pm the lantern procession will arrive in Royal Avenue Gardens. For this final hour of Candlelit Dartmouth there’ll be a real party atmosphere and you can be sure of some great live music for one last Candlelit boogie.
There will be a free Park and Ride minibus shuttle service from the top of town on Saturday from 10am to 8pm (donations always gratefully received). Programme and timings are subject to change.
