Guest Blog Post - Comfort Insurance*

South Devon is home to some of the country’s most stunning and inspiring natural wonders – and so it’s an obvious choice for motorhome drivers who’d like another adventure in the countryside.

You’ll find plenty of coastline here, of course, along with national parks and historic villages. Miles from major cities and motorways, you’ll get an undeniable sense of freedom. Provided that you’ve invested in the right motorhome insurance, this needn’t come at the expense of your peace of mind on the road!

If you’re contemplating a visit to this part of the world, then there are a number of special locations that you might consider including in your holiday itinerary. Let’s run through five of the best.

Dartmoor National Park: Wild Beauty and Scenic Drives

Let’s start with one of the area’s most famous names. Dartmoor is home to almost a thousand square kilometres of ancient rolling hills, enormous granite tors, and a sprawling, verdant valleys. Countless precious animal species make their home here – and so too could you, thanks to the abundance of excellent campsites in the area.

Salcombe: Coastal Bliss and Watersports

If you’d prefer an adventure by the sea, then Salcome might hold an even greater appeal. Those wishing to stay on dry land might hike along the beaches and clifftops, and watch the surf lap against the coast. Those looking for a more high-octane experience might head out into the water for a spot of kayaking. This is a fairly popular corner of Devon, and you’ll enjoy easy access to the campsites nearby.

Hope Cove: Secluded Charm with Stunning Sea Views

It might be, however, that you’d prefer something a little further from the beaten track. Hope Cove offers a quieter, more secluded place to spend a few days. There are plenty of scenic roads leading in and out, and the location itself is as charming as it is peaceful.

Slapton Sands: A Beach Lover’s Paradise

This is a very long pebbled beach, surrounded by history and natural beauty. This beach was used as a rehearsal space for Allied forces, just prior to the D-Day landings. When you’re relaxing on the beach, it’s difficult not to feel sombre about it. You can park right near the beach, which makes this an obvious stop-off point for motorhome drivers.

Bigbury-on-Sea and Burgh Island: A Unique Tidal Adventure

There’s no place quite like Bigbury-on-Sea. From here, you’ll be able to take a trip out to Burgh Island via tractor – or you can walk the same distance, when the tide is low. Stop for a drink at the famous Pilchard Inn – and park the motorhome nearby. This place is a must-visit for fans of Agatha Christie.
