It’s that time of year again! The nights are drawing in, the heating’s coming on, and we’re looking forward to snuggling up by cosy fires as the winter months come closer. And we know that as we watch the leaves begin to turn, we’re not too far from October Half Term and of course Halloween! It’s just a few weeks away and if you’re looking for some fun things to do during this period, South Devon has plenty for you. From spooky events to food festivals and animal extravaganzas, the region has plenty going on to keep the adults and children entertained! Check out some of the fantastic October Half Term events and Halloween events taking place across South Devon below.

Dartmouth Food Festival (18th – 20th October)

Kick start October Half Term in the beautiful town of Dartmouth with their annual food festival! Regional food and drinks is showcased throughout the town with plenty of stalls and events. Teignmouth Jazz Festival (18th – 20th October)

This annual event sees national and local artists take to the stage at various venues across the stunning seaside resort of Teignmouth. Workshops will also be taking place as well. If you would like to learn more about Teignmouth Jazz Festival, please click here.

Day Out with Thomas at South Devon Railway (19th – 21st October)

Thomas, his friends and the Fat Controller will be at South Devon Railway to welcome all fans young and old! Trains will be running all day as well as an Imagination Station with Thomas storytelling! Your ticket includes entry to the Rare Breeds Farm at Totnes and entry to Buckfast Butterflies & Dartmoor Otters too! Adult tickets are £22, children £17, seniors £21 and under 2s go free. Spooky Fun (19th – 26th October)

Make your way to The Bear Trail in Cullompton as it turns in to The Scare Trail for October! Make your way through the spooky obstacle course then pick up your free Beastly Bats Trail Sheet to discover the creatures that lurk in the mud pit! Normal admission fees apply. Half Term at the Museum (19th – 26th October)

Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life have plenty going on this October Half Term. Follow the Halloween trail around the museum throughout the week and on the 22nd of October you can join in with some great autumn crafts. Gruffts at Pennywell Farm – Goat Week (19th – 27th October)

Dinosaur Half Term Halloween Horrors (19th October - 3rd November)

During half term discover the Halloween Horrors at Torquay’s Dinosaur World. Complete the Halloween Horrors Hunt to save the dinosaurs from the ghastly ghosts and ghouls and win a Dinosaur Expert Certificate and a FREE 160-million-year-old fossil. Spooky Dartmouth Castle (19th – 27th October)

A feast of frightening fun awaits at Dartmouth Castle this half term. Gather your little monsters for a ghoulishly good day-out including wicked crafts, a spooktacular Halloween quest around the castle and a fancy dress competition. Find out more about Spooky Dartmouth Castle here.

October Half Term 2019 (19th October – 3rd November)

Enjoy two weeks of half term fun at World of Country Life in Exmouth. On the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of October visitors can enjoy ‘Defrosted’ the attractions hilarious own version of the Disney Classic Frozen! Halloween Half Term (19th October – 5th November)

There’s a donkey Trick or Treat Trail taking place at The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth as well as pumpkin carving from the 23rd to the 31st of October! Activities are just £3 each and parking and entry are free! Explore more about Halloween Half Term here.

Halloween at Powderham (20th October – 1st November)

Powderham Castle have some truly ghoulish Halloween activities taking place this October! Take the spooky tour and listen to the ghost stories of Powderham or try your hand at pumpkin carving between the 20th and 25th of October. Halloween Marine Monster Mysteries (21st – 31st October)

Head to Living Coasts in Torquay and delve into a world of marine monsters over October Half Term. Grab a trail sheet and uncover facts as well as busting some myths and don’t forget the prize at the end! Trail sheets are £1.50 and regular admission prices apply. Halloween Wild Potions Trail (21st – 31st October)

Discover the secret ingredients to the witches’ Zoo Brew at Paignton Zoo Environmental Park! Pick up a trail sheet to complete and receive a creepy crawly prize at the end. Disney On Ice (23rd – 27th October)

Head to Westpoint in Exeter this half term for Disney On Ice. With a cast of over 50 Disney characters including all your favourite princesses and animals, children and adults alike can enjoy this magical display. Tickets start from just £20, please click here for more details about Disney On Ice.

Bounce at the Park (24th October)

Bounce at the Park takes place at River Dart Country Park during October Half Term. A jam-packed day of loads of inflatables that the whole family can enjoy! And visitors can also enjoy all the adventure playgrounds at the park, dare devil activities are at additional cost. Discover more about Bounce at the Park here

Museum at Night (24th October)

Taking place at the Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life, younger visitors can enjoy the pumpkin trail from 5pm until 6pm, and then the lights go out! From 6pm until 7:30pm those brave enough can explore the museum by torchlight and perhaps meet some of the museum’s ghosts! Regular admission fees apply, plus some addition charges for crafts. Halloween Evenings of Mini Horrors (24th – 31st October)

Babbacombe Model Village has a jam-packed Halloween waiting for you in Torquay. Have a go at  the Spooky Maze, enjoy the Spookilluminations and Haunted House in 4D, take part in the Workshop of Horrors Tour and discover the miniature Halloween characters throughout the tiny village. The Zombie Trail (27th October)

The Zombie Apocalypse comes to The Bear Trail in Cullompton. Take part in an obstacle course and be sure to dodge the gruesome zombies! Two time slots are on offer, Prices vary and early bird tickets are available. For more information about The Zombie Trail, please click here.

Shaun the Sheep Farmageddon Glow Run (30th October)

Head to Haldon Forest this Halloween for a Shaun the Sheep themed run! The trees will be aglow as you race through them spotting characters from the film along the way. Participants will receive Shaun the Sheep ears and can decorate them with UV paint before they head to the forest. Entry is £7 for 12 year olds and under, £14 for 13+, booking essential. Terrible Tiverton Walk (31st October)

Approximately an hour and a half walk starting at the Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life, enjoy a gruesome walk exploring the history of Tiverton’s streets.
