393 reviewsLocated in the heart of the English Riviera, the Abbey Sands Hotel is the perfect base for anyone wanting to explore the popular town of Torquay with its beautiful coastline, stunning beaches and incredible local attractions. The hotel is one of the oldest buildings in the town and has a grand, historic atmosphere as well as a number of onsite facilities, incredible dining experiences and exceptional service. A stay here will introduce you to the wonderful English Riviera. Recognised by UNESCO, this area of Devon houses one of the UK’s largest fishing ports and has been popular with visitors for hundreds of years. Rich in history and heritage, it is an ideal holiday location and the hotel is perfectly situated for exploring the Torbay.
Whether you are visiting as a couple, with the family, planning a wedding or attending a conference, you’ll love the location of the Abbey Sands Hotel. There are miles of sandy beaches to enjoy, glorious gardens, award-winning attractions and the fascinating history of this popular seaside resort. After spending your days exploring the wonders of south Devon, you can be sure of a relaxing and peaceful stay on your return to the hotel. The Abbey Sands hotel offers all our guests the comfort of home and is dog and child friendly, so everyone in the family can enjoy their stay.
Originally starting out as two Victorian villas, the Abbey Sands Hotel began life as the Roslyn Hall Hotel after the villas were combined to accommodate the growing tourism trade. Because of this the hotel features striking Victorian architecture and much of the original charm of these buildings has been retained. Many of the rooms still have their elegant Victorian proportions, as does the ground floor hallway. The elegance and décor match the hotel’s gorgeous surroundings with the incredible Torre Abbey, as well as the coastline being visible from the hotel grounds. In addition to being a place of great historic importance, the Abbey Sands Hotel also attracts art fans, especially after famous street artist, Banksy, left one of his sought after pieces at the hotel. The 8ft high mural of a young boy drawing a robot appeared overnight at the hotel in 2010 and was validated by Banksy on his website.
The many on-site facilities, including heated indoor and outdoor pool, as well as the comfortable rooms, warm welcomes and highly experienced team all add up to a wonderful place to stay. The hotel also offers some incredible dining options with a range of delicious menus which reflect both their bay location and the head chef’s passion for local produce. All the dishes are created using seasonal flavours and local high quality ingredients. The restaurant area is decorated to create a cosy, intimate ambience with soft lighting to create the perfect place to relax and enjoy these beautifully crafted dishes. A popular choice is the hotel’s Sunday Lunch, which always includes the finest West Country meat. A stay at the hotel isn’t complete without venturing into the restaurant to sample some traditional English Cream Tea. This is a famous delicacy here in Devon and the cream tea available at the Abbey Sands include home-made scones made onsite accompanied by locally sourced Devon clotted cream and homemade jam.
Guests and non-residents are also welcome to make use of the Abbey Sands Leisure facilities. Hotel guests are able to use the facilities as part of their stay and non-members are able to purchase passes allowing full use of the indoor pool, heated outdoor pool, gym, hot tub and discounts on treatments at our sister hotel.
