Let's Celebrate the 80th Anniversary of VE Day in Okehampton!
Together with Everything Okehampton, Miss Ivy Events is delighted to bring you an unforgettable celebration of the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, marking the end of World War II.
Join us on Thursday 8th May 15:00 – 20:00 in Okehampton's glorious Simmons Park for an afternoon packed with activities, entertainment, and memories as we honour this historic occasion.
Event Highlights
3 PM Start: Roll out the bunting and bring your family, friends, and neighbours to enjoy a community day like no other!
Live Entertainment:
Terrie-May Nightingale and Jive Junction will fill the air with vintage tunes, perfect for a nostalgic step back in time.
At 4:30 PM, witness a spectacular Army Cadet March followed by a salute from the Lord Lieutenant, honouring those who served.
Evening Beacons: The day concludes with the lighting of beacons in the area at 9:30 PM (locations to be confirmed), a traditional gesture to commemorate the spirit of VE Day.
Classic Car Display: Admire a range of vintage vehicles, offering a glimpse into the past era of motor cars.
Shopping and Dining: Explore 30 gift, craft, and artisan stalls, enjoy delicious street food and drinks, and browse through the stalls of local vendors.
Family Fun: From traditional games organized by OCRA to bubble shows, Punch & Judy, and a charming Teddy Bears Picnic, there's something for everyone.
Historical Displays: Visit our special marquee showcasing a timeline and associated displays dedicated to 80 years of war history.
