Displaying the Early-Modern Maritime World: The ‘Tudor and Stuart Seafarers’ gallery at the National Maritime Museum
In 2018, the National Maritime Museum in London opened a new gallery that sought to tell the story of England’s maritime emergence in the early modern era. In this talk, the lead curator of the gallery Dr James Davey will talk about his experiences working on this display, and reflect on some of the challenges involved in creating a museum display aimed at a broad popular audience. With the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower voyage almost upon us, he will also discuss some of the issues that arise when presenting sometimes complex and controversial histories to a wide audience.
This is a joint fundraising event for Dartmouth Mayflower 400 and the Flavel. Tickets will be available for on-line purchase through the Flavel website in due course.
