My Sister The Eel
Ruby De Ville Morel
One dancer and a musician. Physical, reflective and intimate, the show's abstract narrative explores exaggerated and distorted expressions of femininity and folklore through a queer and contemporary lens. The dancer's movements slip between human and animal; embodying a cycle of growth and destruction. With darkening concerns for the wellbeing of our planet, and a collective deterioration in our relationship to nature, this piece hopes to be a reminder of the importance of reconnecting to our natural landscapes and to each other. Contemporary dance and live music conjure up a folkloric story of human, beast and landscape.
Murmur
NooN
Murmur is a multi-sensory performance, blending movement, costume, music and projection, which explores and amplifies mycelium communication and the deep subconscious.
Mycelium are the branching, fusing networks of fungi. It is as mycelium that fungi live the majority of their lives, unseen, underground. Much like us as artists.
Conceived as a series of intimate encounters, Murmur takes the form of a concept album. The audience's first encounter is with a living Reishi mushroom which they probe with a listening device. Murmur then invites them into an immersive journey into the strange world of fungi, told in light, sound and movement.
BANNED
Pugmill
BANNED is a dance-drama. Particular highlights of the work include dance in a wide range of styles, distinct character created by movement and precise physical theatre to the intonation of spoken word. BANNED explores what it is like to 'come out' in rural areas. In the jam packed solo, we follow the character Maz as he faces his sexuality and attempts to tell his village that he's gay. This becomes quite difficult. It is highly physical and reflects some of the news stories that have made headlines in recent years about book-banning and self-expression.
