A double bill of family events for children aged 5+. Organised by Devon-based arts charity Villages in Action, this event is part of the From Devon With Love festival – an annual scratch performance festival, originally established by The Bike Shed Theatre, which supports some of the region's best talent to test new work in front of a live audience.
Bowie's Nose (Show)
Emma Baskeyfield & Mich Sanderson
Emma and Mich specialise in imaginative storytelling co-created with, and for, young people (featuring a hefty dose of audience participation!)
Emma brings magical puppetry expertise to the table, captivating young audiences, while Mich is a playwright, creating engaging and entertaining stories for children.
In January 2024, Emma and Mich were the recipients of Theatre Alibi's Cupboard Commission, pitching a project reinterpreting local folktales with young people across Exeter, connecting participants to their environments while giving them the chance to add their voices to history. The creative outcome of this engagement was The Story Store – two 'new folktales' performed by Emma and Mich at Emmanuel Hall throughout the February half term.
Gratefully supported by Doorstep Arts' Spark and Grow Bursary, Bowie's Nose has followed a similar making process, with the team taking another Devon folktale to the young people of Hayes Primary School in Paignton and asking them to fill in the gaps…
The Mushroom Show (Workshop)
Scratchworks Theatre Company
Scratchworks Theatre needs you!
Can you help us make our next theatre show?
The Mushroom Show (working title) is going to be a brand-new piece of theatre exploring the wonderful world of fungi. We're getting our science hats on and our adventuring boots at the ready! Let's see what we can discover about all their amazing abilities, mysterious secrets and scientific superpowers.
We want this show to be for the whole family - exploring connection, community and lots of fungi-filled facts! BUT we need your imaginations, your questions and your curiosities! Maybe you can even help us choose the title?!
This will be an interactive workshop exploring themes from the story, giving you the opportunity to input ideas which could end up in the final version of the show!
This event is suitable for children aged 5+
