A free workshop with filmmakers Xenia Glen and Antosh Wojcik. Explore a recently digitised film archive with footage dating from the 1930s to the 1960s, tracking one family's travels and activities through this turbulent period.
Xenia and Antosh are creating a film using the Exeter Phoenix Archive - a mysterious collection of found footage recorded decades ago on 16mm film - and they want your help!
This fun, active session is open to all aged 16+ and welcomes participants of all backgrounds and abilities, be you a film hobbyist, a curious archivist, a creative writer, or someone with an interest in heritage & history!
Explore the footage and its historical context, and record your responses to the images through writing activities and conversation.
What to expect:
- Exclusive viewing of select parts of the Exeter Phoenix Archive.
- Hands-on exploration of the filmmaking process.
- A discussion about ethical filmmaking practices and photographic consent.
- Reflective and creative writing exercises based on your personal responses to the footage.
- Optional sharing and sound recordings of your thoughts.
All materials will be provided. If you'd like to bring along a phone or device that you can capture your own photos/videos on to develop your own archive in session, that is encouraged but not a necessity.
Thanks to our funders and supporters on this project: The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Radcliffe Trust, Aurelius Charitable Trust, Exeter Communities Together, & Villages in Action.
