Get in the Christmas spirit and enjoy a special evening of carol singing by candlelight with the resident donkeys and Santa himself.
Setting the scene and adding a touch of magic to the evening's proceedings, the Sanctuary in Sidmouth will be spectacularly illuminated by thousands of candles. 20 jazz saxophonists from the Saxminster Band will begin the festive celebrations with a host of merry tunes, before the 45 minute Christmas carol service commences at 5pm in Main Barn surrounded by lots of friendly donkeys – who may even join in!
Visitors can warm the cockles with festive refreshments served from The Hut from 3pm to 7pm, including mulled wine, hot drinks and mince pies. For delicious hot food pay a visit to the Sanctuary's new restaurant, The Kitchen, where food will be available to takeaway or enjoy in the comfort of the restaurant while watching the carol service live-streamed from Main Barn. The Kitchen will be open as normal during the day (9am – 4pm) and the evening's menu will then be available from 4pm, with last food orders taken at 6.30pm, before closing at 7pm.
There will also be Christmas wish trees in the Hayloft where you can help decorate them with special messages to loved ones, friends or the donkeys and don't forget to purchase some raffle tickets from the Video Room for the chance to win a luxury hamper of Sanctuary goodies. The Gift Shop will also open until 7pm, providing that perfect Christmas shopping opportunity for a range of wonderfully unique gifts.
This event is free to attend with free parking, although space is limited so it is recommended you arrive early or make use of public transport where possible. Local bus routes serving The Donkey Sanctuary include the 899 Axe Valley Mini Travel as well as the Jurassic Coast services X53, X54 Coastlinx and 52A.
