The world-famous Brodsky Quartet has a special relationship with Bovey Tracey having appeared at the first Nourish Festival in 2014 and on two more occasions since. This year they return for a special one-off appearance at St Peter, St Paul & St Thomas Church, Bovey Tracey on Sat 9 June, from 7:30pm – 10pm, during the same week that the Contemporary Crafts Festival is also taking place.
The programme is as varied as ever. Elgar's wife said that his string quartet, written exactly a hundred years ago, had 'captured sunshine', whereas Shostakovich's third quartet is an epic picture of life in wartime Russia: thrilling, sometimes harrowing, and intensely moving. In complete contrast again, the evening will begin with two picture-postcard pieces from Mexico, one depicting the bustle and energy of city life, the other the mysteries of the night.
At every concert in Bovey Tracey the Brodsky Quartet have stunned the audience with the intensity and energy of their playing, and this should be no exception. If you want to know why this was the string quartet which Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney and Bjork chose to work with … this is your chance!
