Discover The Barn Cinema - a beautiful and unique single screen cinema, housed in a 15th Century converted barn on the impressive Dartington Estate.
The Barn has been in operation as an independent cinema for over 50 years, running a wide-ranging film programme showing the best of mainstream cinema for adults and children, including family films during school holidays and weekends, arthouse, world and live event cinema, outdoor cinema and special events.
With film gurus at the helm, you’ll also find an eclectic programme of independent film to entertain and challenge, offering something for everyone.
The Barn’s Event Cinema screening is broadcast live from world-renowned arts venues, such as the National Theatre, New York’s Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House, the Royal Ballet, Glyndebourne, and the British Museum.
Open seven days a week, the Barn Cinema is one of South Devon’s most unique cinema venues. Steeped in history and located just off the medieval courtyard in the impressive grounds of the Dartington Hall Estate, it offers a quaint and magical atmosphere for any film follower to experience.
There’s plenty of offers too, with a special discounted rate for Monday night films, family tickets, group rates, member discounts and loyalty cards to take advantage of. Bookers can make a meal of it too and enjoy 10% off all food and drink at The White Hart pub with every barn cinema ticket (located just a stone’s throw from the cinema). There’s even a Barn Film Club running every Friday which meet ahead of the evening film, plus snacks available to bring into the cinema from the Roundhouse barn café next door.
Book tickets online, or by visiting or phoning Dartington’s Box Office on 01803 847070, between 1.30-7.30pm, daily. The cinema is fully accessible with nearby disabled parking accessibility.
Visit the website to find out more about what’s on at the Barn Cinema and to plan your visit. Group bookings are welcome.
The History of the Barn:
The 15C barn's exterior was reconstructed under the supervision of William Weir during the early 1930s and was later converted into a theatre by Walter Gropius and Robert Henning in 1938, going on to host a variety of national and international productions. The Barn began operating as a cinema in the 1970s; in the 90s it was completely refurbished, with comfy new cinema seats installed a few years ago.
