South Devon Highlights

Babbacombe Model Village 

Step into a Miniature Christmas on selected dates from 16th November to 4th January. See the illuminations with lots of Christmas sparkle and festive lighting. Enjoy festive displays during the day and magical illuminations at dusk, complete with a Christmas character-spotting adventure for kids. Will you be able to find all the mini Santas and their Elves?

Kents Cavern

Immerse yourself in a magical festive experience at Kents Cavern! From November 26th to December 19th, enjoy enchanting Christmas concerts featuring incredible choir acoustics, followed by a candlelit stroll through the stunning cave system, singing carols along the way. Wrap up the evening with mulled wine, hot chocolate, and festive treats in the café. 

From December 7th to 24th, join Santa in the Caves for a delightful blend of festive fun and adventure! This interactive pantomime experience takes you on a journey through beautifully decorated caves, where you’ll encounter an array of vibrant characters and holiday cheer.

Bygones, Torquay

Step back in time and experience a Victorian Christmas at Bygones in Torquay! From December 1st, their life-sized Victorian street and rooms will be beautifully transformed into a traditional Christmas wonderland. Enjoy a festive atmosphere perfect for the whole family, all included with your admission—no extra charges!

Paignton Zoo

Celebrate the return of *Christmas at the Zoo* at Paignton Zoo! During the festive season, Santa will be stopping by—don’t forget to book your grotto visit. Each child’s ticket includes a special gift from Santa and discounted zoo entry for the same day. 

Enjoy storytelling sessions, live music every weekend, and festive treats like mulled cider and mince pies for adults. Get creative by decorating a bauble for the Christmas tree, making eco-friendly reindeer food to take home, and crafting Christmas-themed enrichment for the animals. A magical experience for all ages!

Bay of Lights, English Riviera

The Bay of Lights is back, bringing a dazzling array of sparkling events to the English Riviera this winter! From November 16th to January 2nd, the spectacular *Bay of Lights* returns, promising to be even bigger and brighter than before. Spanning Torquay, Babbacombe, Paignton, and Brixham, the entire Bay will come alive with an enchanting lineup of illuminated family-friendly festivities.

Buckfast Abbey Christmas Market

Buckfast Abbey’s popular three-day Christmas Market is back from November 28th to 30th, running from 10 am to 5 pm with FREE entry and parking. Enjoy a festive celebration featuring the largest selection of local crafts, products, and gifts, alongside non-stop family entertainment. 

For the first time ever, Santa will be making an appearance—be sure to book your tickets online! Indulge in delicious treats, soak up the festive cheer, and enjoy live performances from talented entertainers. A perfect holiday outing for the whole family!

Plymouth & South Hams Festivities

National Marine Aquarium

The National Marine Aquarium is hosting a Sustainable Ocean Friendly Christmas Market on December 4th! This special evening market is for adults only, offering a peaceful chance to explore the aquarium and shop, with festivities running from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm (last entry at 8 pm). 

For families, the Ocean Friendly Market will open at 3:00 pm, so aquarium visitors with children and annual passes can enjoy browsing and picking up sustainable Christmas gifts before 5:30 pm. On arrival, you’ll receive a free festive snack and drink, plus the opportunity to join a soy wax wrap-making workshop and attend festive talks, where you’ll learn tips for celebrating a more ocean-friendly Christmas.

The Box Christmas Market

On December 5th, head to The Box’s Christmas Market to browse and purchase fantastic locally made items. In addition to the market, enjoy a special discount in their onsite shop and dine at The Box Kitchen & Bar, open from 6 pm to 8 pm. Tickets should be booked in advance. 

On December 15th, don’t miss ‘Around The World in 80 Sleighs’, a festive spectacular that celebrates Christmas traditions from various countries through music and song. 

Then, on December 20th, bring the family for a special Family Late! Explore the galleries after hours, enjoy storytelling, take part in night sky-themed crafts, and dance to Christmas hits from 5:30 pm to 8 pm. Santa will be popping in to join the fun!

Pennywell Farm

Experience the magic of Christmas at Pennywell Farm on select dates throughout December! The farm transforms into a breathtaking winter wonderland, adorned with twinkling lights, hundreds of Christmas trees, and festive sparkle. 

Your visit includes a walking nativity journey, a tractor and trailer ride, Christmas cuddles with the animals, a stop at the Elf’s sweet shop, a group visit to Father Christmas, and a special gift. Enjoy festive treats like mince pies, homemade biscuits, and drinks. Plan to spend 2 to 2.5 hours soaking in the holiday cheer!

South Devon Railway

The Polar Express returns to the South Devon Railway from November 29th, complete with its iconic sleek black steam engine. This enchanting experience includes an authentic steam train ride lasting about an hour, where you'll meet the Conductor and his lively crew as the train steams its way to the North Pole! 

Upon arrival, Santa and one of his cheerful elves will climb aboard to meet everyone. Just like in the beloved film, the Conductor will even clip your Polar Express tickets. After the magical journey, don’t miss the chance to snap a family photo with the train for a perfect festive keepsake!

Woodlands Family Theme Park

The Woodlands Christmas Grotto returns on select dates from November 23rd to December 23rd! Embark on a magical journey through the North Pole with your elf tour guides in a 10-room interactive walkthrough featuring snowy forests, cosy cabins, and the incredible Elf Toy Factory. Hop aboard the Woodlands Express for an immersive train ride where you'll meet Santa and receive a special gift. 

This year’s Christmas evening event is bigger and brighter, with eight enchanting nights between December 3rd and 20th. Enjoy a festive stroll along the dazzling Christmas light trails, join the elves for another North Pole adventure, ride the Woodlands Express, and share a magical moment with Santa!

Exeter and East Devon Attractions

Royal Albert Memorial Museum

Join the Winter Festivities Craft Activity at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) in Exeter on December 14th and 15th. This year, the focus is on global winter celebrations, highlighting traditions from different cultures. You can create traditional African beading or craft vibrant Papel Picado bunting from Mexico. Whether you choose to make something inspired by the exhibition or bring your own festive flair, you'll use colourful beads and paper to add a personal touch to your Christmas tree. Tickets can be purchased on the day at the Shop@ RAMM.

Haldon Forest Park

Join Wallace and Gromit for the ultimate "forest walkies" adventure at Haldon Forest Park! This interactive, dog-friendly trail is packed with fun games and challenges for you and your furry friend. Use the OS Maps app to follow the route and discover a series of panels with exciting activities for you and your pup, plus crossword clues to solve along the way. Don’t forget to grab your ‘Forest Walkies with Wallace & Gromit’ pack before setting off! 

It’s also your last chance to enjoy the ‘Gruffalo Party Trail’, running until January 5th. While you're there, pick out your perfect Christmas tree from the on-site sales and make your visit extra special!

Powderham Castle Winter Wonderland 

Bring the whole family to Powderham Castle’s enchanting Winter Wonderland, running from November 25th to December 31st. The historic castle and its grounds will be transformed with twinkling lights and festive charm, creating an unforgettable experience.

Wander through captivating light displays, and let the kids visit Santa in his grotto, where they’ll receive special gifts if they’re on the nice list. Enjoy seasonal treats and warming drinks as you explore the beautifully decorated castle and grounds or indulge in a Festive Afternoon Tea in the Music Room.

Killerton House Christmas

Experience a feel-good Christmas at Killerton! Wander through the ground floor of Killerton House, beautifully adorned with lush green garlands, sparkling trees, decorative fireplaces, and twinkling fairy lights, creating the perfect Christmas glow. Discover both traditional and modern holiday customs through interactive activities for all ages as you explore the gardens, parkland, and Chapel grounds. Be sure to visit the chapel, where you can admire 12 dazzling Christmas trees, each thoughtfully decorated by local community groups. Open daily from November 30th to December 31st (closed on December 25th and 26th).

Stuart Line Cruises

Celebrate Christmas in Devon with a Festive Special River Cruise from Stuart Line Cruises, running from November 12th to January 1st.

Relax and enjoy the festive season on the peaceful, sheltered waters of the River Exe. Our boats are beautifully decorated for the holidays, with covered and heated lower decks, cosy blankets, and plenty of fresh air and stunning views from the upper outdoor deck. You’ll be greeted with a glass of homemade mulled wine and a delicious warm mince pie, the perfect way to unwind and escape the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season.

Crealy Theme Park

Christmas is almost here! Get into the festive spirit and start your celebrations at Crealy Theme Park & Resort. From November 30th to December 23rd, join Sooty and friends for Sooty’s Christmas Show. Explore the magical winter light displays and enjoy rides under the stars. And, of course, make sure to visit Santa and send your Christmas list to the North Pole!

Bicton Park

Visit Bicton Park on December 13th for their Christmas Craft Fair from 4 pm to 8 pm and enjoy a complimentary mince pie and drink (while supplies last) as you tackle your Christmas shopping. With over 30 local craft stalls, carol performances by the Budleigh Male Voice Choir, and a stunning Christmas light display at the garden centre, complete with the sound of Lister engines, it’s sure to be a festive evening to remember.

The Donkey Sanctuary

Visit the Donkey Sanctuary from November 4th to February 3rd for the Mini Winter Wonderland Trail. Discover the sanctuary’s miniature herd in their brand-new paddock as you explore, answering questions along the way for a chance to win a prize. During the winter months, the sanctuary focuses on ensuring the donkeys remain happy and healthy as the temperatures drop and the weather changes. Enjoy fresh, local, seasonal produce at the award-winning Taste of the West restaurant, and don’t forget to browse their charming gift shop too!

North Devon Cheer

Clovelly Christmas Lights

Join the festive magic at Clovelly on December 8th for the Christmas lights switch-on. Starting at 4 pm, a local brass band will lead a procession down to the harbour, filling the air with carols. Enjoy a hog roast, grog, and other refreshments at the harbour and Lifeboat Station. Father Christmas will also make a surprise visit!

At 5 pm, the lights will be switched on, illuminating the village and harbour in a stunning display, followed by a grand finale of fireworks. Admission is £10 per car, with all proceeds going to the RNLI. Don’t miss the Boxing Day barbecue and the fantastic New Year’s Party on December 31st. Milky Way Adventure Park

Experience the Magic of Christmas at The Milky Way on select dates from December 7th to 23rd. Take a journey through a magical snowy forest to Buzzlewick’s Elf Emporium in The Old Barn, where children can meet Buzzlewick the Elf and his friends, decorate gingerbread, write letters to Santa, and make reindeer food. 

Afterward, you’ll have the opportunity to visit Santa’s cosy Christmas Cottage, chat with the jolly old fellow, and choose a special festive gift. The train station, adorned with garlands and a giant Christmas tree, will be filled with holiday cheer, festive music, and plenty of seasonal spirit. Enjoy a hot chocolate on the Festive Train, and don’t miss the special themed show created by Merlin!

Quince Honey Farm

An Elf Invasion is happening at Quince Honey Farm on Saturday 14th, 21st, and Monday 23rd December! Mischievous little elves are hiding all around the honey farm, causing trouble for the bees. Can you find them and crack the secret message? A prize awaits those who solve the puzzle! 

Get creative with some Christmas crafts, then head to the Play Hive to enjoy a hot chocolate and a cookie. You’ll also have plenty of time to explore both the indoor and outdoor play areas. Please note, advance booking is required online.

The Big Sheep Farm and Theme Park

The Big Sheep Farm and Theme Park is hosting its Christmas Market on Saturday 7th, 14th, and 21st December from 9 am to 2 pm. Explore a fantastic range of Christmas stalls offering high-quality local food and drink, festive crafts, and handmade treasures—FREE entry for all! 

Additionally, from December 13th to 16th, don’t miss the Christmas Toddler Takeover, where you can create magical memories with Jiggy Wrigglers. Enjoy a fun-filled festive event featuring snow, holiday cheer, and plenty of family fun!

RHS Garden Rosemoor Glow

Create unforgettable festive memories with loved ones at RHS Garden Rosemoor’s winter illuminations. This year’s Glow trail offers an exciting new route, featuring spectacular light installations across different garden areas. Enjoy delicious food, festive shopping, and discover over 200 captivating sculptures spread throughout the gardens and woodland. The Winter Sculpture Exhibition will be on display until January 31st, transforming the garden into a winter wonderland.

On December 8th, experience the classic tale of *Beauty and the Beast* brought to life by Wonder Pantomimes—tickets are £6, available online. Then, on December 15th, join in a festive afternoon of carol singing to celebrate the season.
