Ever wanted to buy Kents Cavern... or Paignton Zoo? Well, now is your chance!
Torquay's Rowcroft Hospice has launched a special version of one of the world’s most iconic board games. The hospice has teamed up with Winning Moves, a subsidiary of Hasbro, as well as more than 40 local attractions, venues and businesses to recreate the infamous Monopoly board using locations from across South Devon & Torbay.
Produced last year in celebration of Rowcroft’s 40th anniversary to raise vital funds for the hospice, Monopoly South Devon & Torbay Edition is a unique twist on the original MONOPOLY game featuring dozens of local attractions. Included on the board are Newton Abbot Racecourse, Pennywell Farm, Paignton Zoo, Splashdown Quaywest, Babbacombe Model Village and Stuart Line Cruises among others. Plus, taking poll-positions in the notorious Mayfair and Park Lane spots, we have the luxury Thurlestone Hotel, as well as the monumental Powderham Castle.
A spokesperson for Winning Moves explained the inspiration behind choosing South Devon in particular:
“We are delighted to have worked with Rowcroft Hospice on the launch of the official South Devon edition of MONOPOLY. South Devon was chosen for not only being a beautiful part of the country but also for its strong sense of family and community - something that ties in wonderfully with the MONOPOLY brand. We hope this special edition brings joy to households across Devon and beyond.”
How to Buy This Special Edition
Priced at £30, the MONOPOLY game can be ordered from Rowcroft’s website at www.rowcrofthospice.org.uk/monopoly and it is available to purchase in Rowcroft’s shops across South Devon. ‘Devon’s Top Attractions’ have also supplied two ‘golden tickets’ that are hidden within two games. Each lucky golden ticket winner will receive a whole year of free days out (worth over £1500) with free entry to over 30 South Devon attractions for up to four people! What a fantastic opportunity to enjoy our beautiful region!
About Rowcroft Hospice
Every year Rowcroft Hospice helps more than 2,000 people living with life-limiting illnesses in South Devon to help patients and families make the most of their days.
By providing comfort, support and specialist services in patients’ homes, the community and at Rowcroft’s Inpatient Unit in Torquay, the hospice enables families to share precious and joyful moments when they are needed most.
Due to the needs of our increasingly ageing local population, the demand for Rowcroft’s services has never been greater. The charity currently cares for around one in three people with life-limiting illnesses across South Devon and has ambitious plans to expand its care to reach more people.
But they can’t do this without your help. As an independent charity around 75% of their funding comes from the generosity of local people. You can help by buying one of these amazing MONOPOLY boards, purchasing an item from their charity shops or by simply donating to them directly.
