February Half Term in South Devon

If you’re visiting South Devon during February half term this year, then you will not be disappointed! Throughout the region there are plenty of fantastic events happening to keep both kiddies and adults entertained no matter what the weather is; from nature-themed trails to exciting days out and crafty workshops, you’re sure to find something fun to do during your time here. Read on to find out more about some of our highlighted events that are going on during from the 11th – 19th February.  

Stories of Sanctuary Spirit – Winter Trail, The Donkey Sanctuary Sidmouth (2nd November - 17th March) 

Discover the spirit of the Donkey Sanctuary this winter. Follow their trail around the sanctuary and uncover each spirit word and matching donkey in their joyous poems. The activity is suitable for little ones of all ages and includes a small prize upon completion. You can also take part in the sanctuary’s daily talks and demonstrations, and they even boast a wonderful café so you can make a full day of it! 

Little Paws Paint & Pounce, Dartmoor Zoo, nr Plymouth (11th – 19th February) 

Enjoy a truly wild adventure at Dartmoor Zoo’s Little Paws Paint & Pounce event! Spark the imagination of your children and enjoy a range of free activities included in your general admission ticket. You can expect to find a bouncy castle, face painting, craft activities, animal themed games and much more!  

The Parcel by Theatre Alibi, Paignton Library, Paignton (11th February) 

A giant and mysterious parcel has arrived at Paignton Library and interestingly, there’s two people living inside it! They’ve travelled around the world and have many breath-taking stories to be told. Questions such as ‘where did they come from’ and ‘where are they off to next’ may arise, but your best bet is to come along to Paignton Library this half term to meet this intriguing pair to find out more.  

Intro to Zoo Life Course, Dartmoor Zoo, nr Plymouth (13th, 15th & 17th February) 

Jump in behind the scenes of Dartmoor Zoo with their fascinating Intro to Zoo Life taster course this half term – perfect for anyone thinking about becoming a zoo keeper, or those who simply love animals. With a mixture of classroom workshops, animal encounters and behind the scenes access, this course gives you the best insight into Zoo life. Please note that this course is for people aged 16+.  

The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Theatre Royal Plymouth, Plymouth (14th – 25th February) 

From the author of Coraline, Good Omens and The Sandman comes the National Theatre’s major new stage adaption: The Ocean at the End of the Lane. The spectacular show is a thrilling adventure of fantasy, mythology and friendship, taking audiences on an epic journey to a childhood once forgotten.  

February Half Term Workshops with Pom Stitch Tassel, Bovey Tracey (14th – 18th February) 

Pom Stitch Tassel are offering some great activities to entertain yourself and the family this half term with some fun craft workshops. On offer are six different workshops: create a pom pom heart wreath, children’s beginners sewing course, children’s advanced sewing course, create a knitted wired rose, cross stitching and macramé hearts. These workshops are perfect for avid crafters as well as those just looking to let their creative juices flow for the day.  

Story Tram, Seaton Tramway, Seaton (17th February) 

Each month Seaton Tramway offer a Story Tram ride from Seaton to Colyton with themed stories and fun songs to sing along the way. There’s an exciting new theme each month, bought to life by puppets, props and plenty of games and activities on arrival. The theme for this month will be Nursery Rhyme Fun, perfect for young families looking for a unique day out! 

Guided Bird Watching Cruise, Stuart Line Cruise, Exmouth (17th, 18th & 19th February) 

A Guided Bird Watching Cruise with Stuart Line Cruise makes an ideal day out for any nature lovers. Many thousands of birds migrate to the River Exe during the colder months and the best way to see them is from the water! The trip will be loved by both amateurs and experts with commentary from ornithologists Dave Smallshire and Derek Carter who will teach you about the species, habitats and behaviours of the birds on the Exe Estuary & East Devon coastline.  

Drum Devon – Intro to Ghanaian Kpanlogo Drumming, Pavilions, Teignmouth (18th February) 

As part of the their ‘Intro to World Rhythm Series', Pavilions will be hosting a fun and exciting Ghanaian Kpanlogo Drumming workshop on the 18th February. This is a fun and accessible rhythm played on toned, barrel shaped drums, the sound of the drums together create a rhythmic melody that will be sure to brighten up your day. Anyone aged 8 and over is welcome so why not bring the whole family! 

Mardi Gras Fiesta, Ashburton Arts Centre, Ashburton (18th February) 

Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) is a day that is celebrated all over the world, and it’s no different in Ashburton, where the arts centre is planning an exciting parade filled with music and art on the weekend prior to the official day. The parade will be gathering outside Ashburton Arts Centre before setting off at 6:30pm with live music, illuminated puppets and a buzzing atmosphere all-round.  

Peter Cigleris & Dina Duisen – Clarinet & Piano, The Courtaney Centre, Newton Abbot (19th February) 

Classical music lovers will rejoice at hearing that iconic clarinettist Peter Cinleris will be joined by pianist Dina Duisen to perform an innovative programme of music on Sunday 19th February. Performing for music clubs and festivals around the UK, Peter Cingleris has worked with Martin Cousins, Mark Bebbington and Julian Lloyd Webber. Catch their renowned performance at The Courtenay Centre in Newton Abbot
