Herbies, Exeter
Set in the heart of Exeter’s city centre, Herbies has been feeding the veggies and vegans of the city for over 30 years. This family-run business offers an extensive and eclectic menu of hearty and vibrant food bursting with flavour. Such dishes on offer here include Mediterranean sharing boards, loaded chilli nachos, fragrant curries or a classic bean burger, just to name a few! They also offer a range of mouth-watering deserts, and a large portion of the menu can also be made vegan on request. The atmosphere at Herbies is incredibly relaxed so it’s the perfect place to stop for a casual lunch, an intimate dinner or a celebration.
Rafikis, Ashburton
Located in the picturesque town of Ashburton is the fantastic vegetarian café, restaurant and bar, Rafikis. The interior is absolutely beautiful with rustic furniture and plants dotted around the room, with large tabes and an emphasis on social dining. There's also an outside eating area, perfect on those warm summers days. They have a varied breakfast, brunch and evening menu all freshly made using the very best local ingredients and produce. Rafikis also serve a great selection of tea and speciality coffee, local ales, wines and spirits alongside plenty of sweet treats.
Seeds 2, Totnes
Totnes is jam-packed with lots of great places to get a veggie lunch or dinner but Seeds 2 Totnes is perhaps one of the best. Seeds 2 can be found at the top of Fore Street near the market square. It’s a vegetarian salad bar and coffee shop with an irresistible selection of freshly made, wholesome salads, pastas and bread to indulge in as much as you’d like! In the mornings they sell a range of locally sourced pastries, buns and cakes served with great coffee and specialist teas. The atmosphere is warm, cosy and has a real community feel – much like the rest of Totnes, so it’s a must-visit for vegetarians in South Devon.
Cosmic Kitchen, Plymouth
Inspired by their Cypriot heritage, twin sisters Gabriela & Lucia opened the Cosmic Kitchen in Plymouth a few years ago and it has since been rated the #1 UK vegan restaurant on TripAdvisor. Cosmic Kitchen are passionate about creating wholesome and delicious food for all, regardless of dietary preference and much of their menu is sourced locally and eco-friendly. If you fancy a light bite you could try their vegan scotch egg, or vegan sausage roll, and if you’d prefer something a bit heartier, opt for their homemade moussaka or jackfruit gyros. On a Sunday Cosmic Kitchen host their Roast Club where you can enjoy hearty nut roast with rosemary potatoes, vegan stuffing, seasonal veg and lashings of red onion gravy – yum!
The Flat, Exeter
Located on Exeter’s Fore Street, the bustling hub for all independent businesses, The Flat is a vegetarian pizzeria serving freshly prepared, organic and hand-stretched pizzas. It doesn’t matter if you’re a meat eater, a vegetarian or a vegan, you will absolutely love this place. The atmosphere here is casual, but intimate and cosy with rustic interiors and incredibly friendly staff. All pizzas can be made vegan or gluten free to suit all dietary requirements and not to mention, they taste incredible! Whether you prefer a spicy, garlicy, fresh or smoked pizza, The Flat have it covered. Wash down your pizza with a cocktail, a beer, a glass of vino or one of their thick and creamy vegan shakes.
