Beer Gardens in South Devon

Nothing can beat a pint in a beer garden on a glorious sunny day, especially after a long walk and we’re incredibly lucky because South Devon boasts lots of great pub gardens. Whether you enjoy looking out to sea, sitting beside the river or overlooking the rolling green hills of Dartmoor, there will be something to suit every taste here in the region. Here’s our top 5 beer gardens in South Devon.

The Otter Inn, Honiton

Sitting next to the River Otter is The Otter Inn, a cosy, traditional pub located just outside of Honiton in Weston. Rich in history, parts of this charming pub date back to the 1700s with an open fire, rustic interiors and a lovely riverside beer garden. Outside there is an expansive green area with lots of seating and a children’s play area for little ones to run around in. They serve a wide range of locally produced beverages, including local real ales by Otter Brewery and Dartmoor Brewery. The Otter Inn is also dog friendly, with a special designated area where pups can eat and relax alongside their owners.

The Ferry Inn, Salcombe

Overlooking the beautiful Salcombe Estuary, The Ferry Inn is perhaps Salcombe’s most famous Inn dating back to 1739. Their waterside beer garden is in one of the most picturesque locations in South Devon; as you walk down the steps to the pub, you’ll be greeted with spectacular views of the water, across to East Portlemouth and the smell of tasty pub food and real local ales. If you’re lucky, you may even meet the gorgeous resident bulldogs, Winston and Wallace! If you’re a big seafood lover, look no further as The Ferry Inn offer succulent, freshly caught fish served with luscious seasonal produce.

The Ship Inn, Teignmouth

The Ship Inn is a lovely, authentic pub, sitting on the doorstep of Teignmouth Back Beach. With amazing harbour side and estuary views, this pub is a real South Devon gem. Outside you will find benches placed across the beach so your little ones can take a dip in the sea whilst you kick back with a glass of vino or a pint of ale. The Ship Inn is well known for its live music throughout the year and it even hosts a music festival on the beach outside the pub. We’d highly recommend a visit here of an evening to watch the sun set over the majestic River Teign.

The Rugglestone Inn, Widecombe in the Moor

Located in the picturesque village of Widecombe in the Moor, The Rugglestone Inn is an idyllic inn which offers unspoilt views of Dartmoor National Park.
