There are plenty of reasons to visit Lyme Bay Winery Cellar Door in Shute, nestled in the rolling green hills of East Devon’s Axe Valley. Taste of the West not only recently awarded the team at Lyme Bay Winery four Gold medals for their Traditional Mead, Black Cherry Mead, Cherry Wine and Ginger Wine BUT they also scooped a coveted Gold medal for their Cellar Door, on account of “the friendly, knowledgeable and passionate staff who guide guests through the range of drinks -with samples galore!”
Steve and Sarah fling open the Cellar Door every Monday to Saturday 9.30am-4.30pm (closed for staff lunch 12.30-1) and Sunday 11am-3pm where guests can sample any of the products and ask the knowledgable staff any questions they like. Just five miles from the coast, Lyme Bay Winery is a stone’s throw away from the quaint town of Axminster and numerous East Devon delights.
In celebration of the Queens Platinum Jubilee, Lyme Bay Winery are delighted to invite Visit South Devon members to the winery for A Right Royal Tasting on June 1st from 1pm until 3pm (turn up anytime). For just £9 you will have the chance to meet some of the Lyme Bay winery team and taste a flight of award-winning traditional method English Sparkling Wines. For more information and to book your place please contact Steve Richardson on Steve.richardson@lbwdrinks.co.uk
The Lyme Bay Winery team have also been holding their own celebrations this week as their wines have been showered with medals in not one but two prestigious competitions. The International Wine Challenge (IWC) and the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC). The Pinot Noir 2020 scooped a Gold in both the IWC and IWSC, one of only a handful of Pinot noir Gold medallists from around the world! And the Chardonnay 2020 won a Silver, again in both competitions. IWC Judges gave the Pinot Noir 95 points, commenting: “Deep red/Vermillion in colour. On the nose it has a profoundly deep spicy and cherry fruited aroma, leading to a silky seamless palate of red fruits. Very long.”
2022 is proving to be a year of celebrations and bringing people together so in September, as part of the Taste East Devon festival, Lyme Bay Winery are teaming up with artisan producer Quicke’s cheeses for three days of Wine and Cheese Pairing. Guests are invited to meet the wine and cheese makers for an informal-yet-educational guided tasting of a flight of their English still and sparkling wines, paired with a selection of Quicke’s world-class clothbound cheeses.
Sessions will run on Tuesday 6th, Saturday 10th and Tuesday 13th September, visit the Taste East Devon website for more info and tickets, or email steve.richardson@lbwdrinks.co.uk.
