Guest Blog Post - Devon's Top Attractions

The top visitor attractions in Devon have been out and about on their annual ‘Clean up the County’ campaign, getting Devon spruced up and ready for the Easter holidays and summer ahead.

Now in its 5th year the ‘Clean up the County’ campaign was born after Devon’s attractions noticed that rubbish and litter was strewn across Devon and particularly on the region’s roadsides, verges and hedgerows. The attractions wanted to ensure that incoming visitors had a great impression as they arrived into the county on their holidays, so joined forces and took matters into their own hands creating the ‘Clean up the County’ campaign.

It’s not only the top visitor attractions who have been out giving the county a spruce up, they’ve teamed up with other Devon tourism businesses who’ve also acknowledged that there is a major litter issue and have joined the campaign. The campaign now includes not only great attractions but some of the county’s top holiday parks, including Cofton Holidays who have been doing their own local beach clean. Helen Scott from Cofton Holidays said, “Team Cofton headed out in force to help clean up Dawlish Warren Beach, staff from all departments got involved, we found that it was not only good for the environment but a rewarding team building exercise and are looking forward to arranging the next one.”

To the north of Devon the team from Clovelly, a leading member of the Devon Association of Tourist Attractions, spent 10 man hours litter picking a mile stretch of the A39 from Clovelly Cross to Hobby Lodge and collected 23 black bags of rubbish. The rubbish collected included numerous car parts, disposable coffee cups and lots of plastic bottles. By highlighting the extent of the county and country’s litter problem Devon’s Top Attractions and Holiday Parks hope that visitors and locals will think twice before littering and spoiling the beautiful landscape.

Alongside cleaning up the county Devon’s Top Attractions have been busy preparing a fantastic range of Easter themed events and special activities ready for the Easter school holidays. To view the full programme of events, see their website www.devonstopattractions.co.uk.
