Devon Left-Right Challenge

As a driver tour guide in Devon (I own award winning Unique Devon Tours) a great deal of my time is spent on the road, and in particular in the lanes of this wonderful county. With more roads than any other county in England, Devon certainly has plenty to get lost in! About 3 years ago, I was on one of the guided tours with guests, going down some particularly narrow lanes with grass growing in the middle, and I thought to myself that I’d like to do something to celebrate the spider’s web of lanes around Devon, and I came up with the idea for the Devon Left-Right Challenge.

The idea is that at 8.00am on Saturday 11^th May, my team and I will start at Devon’s most central point, then we’ll drive for 12 hours. Beforehand every person that donates to the challenge can also nominate either ‘left’ or ‘right’, and it’s these ‘lefts’ and ‘rights’ that we will then navigate by – every time that we come to any kind of split in the road, we will go either left or right.

We have no idea where we’ll end up after 12 hours, but we should see a fair bit of the county, and a great deal of the lanes!

The main purpose of the challenge is to raise much needed funds for two of Devon’s most important animal charities, the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust, and the Donkey Sanctuary near Sidmouth. Both charities do invaluable work in their respective areas of expertise, and having visited them both recently to see their hard work in action, I am very pleased that I have chosen them.

As if donating to these worthy causes isn’t enough, I have also managed to gather a collection of incredible prizes that people donating can win in the prize draw after the event. Surely this is going to be one of the best prize giveaways ever seen in Devon!

The big question is “How do I get involved?” Well, it’s perfectly simple. Just go straight to our page just here, where there’s more information about the event, and an explanation as to how to donate, or you can go to the Virgin Money page for the challenge which is just here. Either will do – after you’ve donated, just make sure that you follow the instructions.
