South Devon has a host of spooktacular events throughout the October Half term to keep the whole family amused. Many of the local attractions are hosting special events or Halloween themed activities throughout October, so join in the fun, dress up, take part in a ghost walk or just enjoy Devon in the Autumn – the choice is yours!

Superhero Fortnight, 14th – 28th October
We’re hosting our very own Superhero Fortnight here at the Dartmouth Steam Railway & River Boat Company where everyone can come dressed as their favourite superhero, children, adults and even the family dog. All children wearing fancy dress on their trip will travel for free, any adults daring to dress as THEIR favourite superhero will go into a prize draw for the best costume.
Dartmouth Food Festival, 20th -22nd October
The Dartmouth Food Festival is back for 2017 with a tempting mix of delicious regional food and drink, chef demonstrations, workshops, lively food debates and fun for all the family. Set in the beautiful estuary town of Dartmouth the 3-day event is a foodie’s heaven, celebrating the very best food, drink and culinary skills from the south west.
Kids for a Quid at South Devon Railway, 21st – 27th October
It’s half term, so bring along the children (under 16s) for a holiday steam train ride at only £1 on the South Devon Railway.
Halloween Spooktacular Mini Brick Trail, 21st -28th October
Search for spooky characters, witches and monsters which have been added to the Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life’s Mini Brick Family Trail. Enjoy building toy play zones as you follow the trail.
Halloween Half Term at World of Country Life, Exmouth, 21st -29th October
There will be loads of fun activities and spooky goings on this Half Term including pumpkin carving, the Hallowe'en treasure trail, spooky arts & crafts and - on Friday 27th, Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th October - our famous family Halloween Show up in the Barnyard Theatre! This year - "Angus & the Witch" !!!
Dinosaur Halloween Horrors, 21st -29th October
At Torquay’s Dinosaur World save the dinosaurs from the wicked witch and the ghastly ghosts and ghouls, and take the Halloween Horrors Hunt to win a Dinosaur Expert Certificate and a FREE 160-million- year-old fossil. From 3.30pm everyday visit for our ‘Lights Out Torch Tour’ to explore the exhibition in the dark, listen to a scary ghost story, and meet Terry the baby T Rex.
Halloween Fun! 21st -31st October
Join Kents Cavern this half term for some spooooky activities.... We've got regular tours throughout the day, just turn up and collect your activity sheets! Head on a cave tour to take part in our underground pumpkin hunt, count the number of pumpkins correctly and you'll receive a prize. Other activities include the witches hat joke trail and spooky dig.
Halloween at Powderham Castle; 22nd – 31st October 2017
Powderham Castle unveils its Festival of Frights this Halloween. Join them this October for a Spooky School, Scary Movie Marathon or House of Horrors.
Jollyween at Pennywell Farm, 24th – 29th October
October Half Term Fun at Pennywell Farm is all treats and no tricks! All the Pennywell animals, including the world famous Pennywell miniature piglets, will be waiting for their last cuddle of the season. There’s a ride, activity show or display every half hour and additional top notch entertainment from Mr Phil, Matt Pang, Poco Drom and Elfic.
Racing at Exeter Racecourse, 24th October
Sitting high on the top of Haldon Hill, just outside Exeter with wonderful views down towards Dartmoor is Exeter Racecourse. Join us on the 24th October for an exciting day of racing and fun.
Halloween Evenings of Mini Horrors, 25th October
Spookilluminations, sound, fire & light effects at Babbacombe Model Village. Workshop of Horrors tour. Haunted House in 4D. Miniature Halloween characters take over the village.
Museums at Night: Mini Brick Spooktacular, 26th October
Join Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life as they open for Museums at Night on Thursday 26 October. Follow the Halloween Spooktacular Mini Brick Trail by torchlight, 5:00-8:00pm. We are also running special stop-motion Lego™ Animation Workshops, 5:30-6:25pm & 6:35-7:30pm, advance booking recommended.
Coleton Fishacre Torchlit Guided Walk, 27th October
Join this magical, atmospheric, torchlit walk around Coleton Fishacre and Froward Point as part of the South West Coast Path Challenge in October. Carry your own flaming torch as we walk from the WWII gun battery at Froward Point and the stunning garden at Coleton Fishacre, weather permitting you’ll enjoy panoramic moonlit views of Torbay, South Devon and Dartmoor.
Halloween Party, 28th October
Join us after hours at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery for a spooky Halloween party to celebrate the national Museums at Night festival. Get up close to lizards, snakes and spiders. Enjoy spooky art activities and facepainting. Hot Chocolate for Little Trick-or-Treaters, wood-fired pizzas & caribbean food, music and bar. 5 - 9pm (art activities till 8pm)
Halloween Fun! 28th -31st October
Do something different this Halloween and join a Kents Cavern Ghost Show, it's not for the fainthearted.... Journey around these ancient caves following your storyteller as they unearth local folklore about ghostly experiences in South Devon. With dim lighting and candles you never know who may appear from the dark!...the show is intended to be scary and is not recommended for the fainthearted!
