The best way to explore the wonderful countryside, coastlines and views on offer in South Devon has to be on foot. With the South West Coast Path running the entire length of the coastline there is wide range of routes to choose from each providing a different view of this stunning region.

To help you decide where to start here are your Top Five South Devon Coastal Walks.

The Exe Estuary Trail

This route provides an exciting opportunity for people to experience cycling or walking around the entire Exe Estuary, while appreciating the wildlife and passing through some beautiful riverside towns and villages steeped in maritime history.

Hallsands to Start Point to Mattiscombe

Follow the South West Coast Path from the ruined fishing village at Hallsands, to the lighthouse that stands at the end of the headland on the south side of Start Bay near Dartmouth. The coastal path then takes you to the small cove of Mattiscombe.

Brixham to Berry Head to Kingswear

The walk from Brixham to Kingswear takes you from the busy fishing port and harbour of Brixham through the Global Goepark and Berry Head Nature Reserve, which is home to a fascinating variety of wildlife and history to Kingswear on the banks of the beautiful River Dart.  

Brownstone car park to Coleton Fishacre

This walk provides stunning views of the countryside and coastline as you journey to reach the National Trust property of Coleton Fishacre, situated near Kingswear. 

Dawlish to Dawlish Warren

The coastal path follows the route of the train line running from Exeter to Newton Abbot. With the line and foot path sandwiched between the red cliffs and sea this walk offers stunning sea views as well as providing a great vantage point for spotting visiting steam trains.
