This is a rare opportunity to hear two fine examples of the String Sextet form. There are only a few string sextets in the traditional chamber music repertoire, and these are not often performed. German composer Louis Spohr's Sextet, written in 1848, was one of the first to be written for this genre, followed ten years later by two sextets by Brahms, this first one a splendid youthful work. The sextet features three pairs of instruments: two violins, two violas and two cellos.
Tickets £15 at the door, under 18s free.
