Are you curious about lino or intaglio printing methods?
Come and join this gentle introduction to lino and intaglio printmaking to create an assortment of bespoke Christmas paraphernalia to surprise and delight your nearest and dearest this Christmas period. We will be creating everything using hand-pressed methods. Most finished pieces will be Christmas card size or smaller, with the exception of the wrapping paper you will stamp with your design during the lino workshop.
Hopefully by the end of the day you won't just be walking away with an assortment of original creations, but also a grasp of the basics and the confidence to create prints at home with simple tools (no press needed).
There are two separate workshops which are designed to complement each other.
Lino: Saturday 14th December 10am-4pm
Intaglio (drypoint): Sunday 15th of December 10am-4pm
You have the option to sign up for one day £75 or both £120 – but booking is essential. Please email to book.
Maximum in a group is 6.
All materials provided. No previous knowledge or experience necessary.
Teas and biscuits will be provided. Please bring a packed lunch. You will have access to toilets and kitchen facilities.
Address:
Dartington Village Hall
Cott Road
Dartington
TQ9 6HQ
(Please be aware that there is virtually no mobile signal inside the hall and no WI-FI).
We will be in a cozy little room that joins onto the main hall. The room has heating and soft uplighting.
Either bring an apron or wear clothes you aren't precious about. Covered footwear is recommended. (And hair ties).
Your packs are ready. The ribbon is tied.
Does one of them have your name on it?
More about your workshop leader:
Katie Jurgens is an experienced artist and art teacher with over 20 years teaching experience. Her high school art teacher initially inspired her love of printmaking.
She is originally from New Zealand, but her and her partner have made the South Hams their home. Having lived here for over 10 years she will easily be able to tell you about other things to see and do in the area, whether you are visiting from nearby or further afield.
She finds the Christmas season a little hard as many of her friends and family are in different parts of the world. However, she has discovered that kindling a little magic through creative projects during this time is often the best soul balm.
£75 for a one day workshop
£120 for both Saturday and Sunday

Dartington is accessible via the A384 from the A38 if coming from Exeter, or the A385 from Plymouth, or Totnes/ Paignton.
At the roundabout where the A384 and A385 join, Cott Road is the narrow lane that goes up a hill towards the Cott Inn (it is directly opposite the A384). The postcode is TQ9 6HQ.
The hall has free car parking, but spaces are limited, so come early. There is also a paid carpark within walking distance just off the A384 opposite Dartington Primary School and The Shops at Dartington, previously known as The Cider Press.
From the Village Hall carpark, walk past the main entrance to the hall and go up the path on the right hand side of the building, to get to the smaller room at the back of the building.

The nearest rail station to Dartington is Totnes. Totnes Station is approximately 1 1/2 miles from Dartington (There is a lovely - but perhaps a bit muddy - 40-60 minute off-road walk, along a cycle track, to The Shops at Dartington where you turn left and cross a stone bridge and traffic controlled pedestrian crossing to the Shinner's Bridge bus stop mentioned below)
There is a taxi rank at the station, but it is advisable to book a taxi in advance.
Buses go from the train station to Shinners Bridge approximately every hour. From the Shinners Bridge bus stop it is a short walk up a narrow lane on a slight incline.
At the roundabout turn left up the Cott Road and the venue will be a short way up the road on your right.
When you get to the main entrance, instead of entering the main hall, go up the path on the right hand side of the building to get to the smaller room at the back of the building.
