Expressionism is one of the most intense and influential movements in art. Its defining characteristic is the artistic interpretation of the emotions that arise from experiencing daily realities, rather than a portrayal of the realities themselves.

The festival offers a unique integration of pivotal music, visual art, and film of this energetic and vibrant artistic era of unbounded influence. Including four extraordinary evenings with world-leading artists:

Concert: Scriabin and Schönberg
Performed by Dr Robert Taub on piano, Alison Wells, mezzo soprano, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra's Kokoro Ensemble and Mark Forkgen, conductor.

Film: Metropolis
An influential German science-fiction film set in a futuristic city introduced by Dr Robert Taub and Anna Navas, Film Administrator at The Arts Institute.

Talk: Visual Art and Music
With Dr Deborah Lewer, Senior Lecturer in History of Art, University of Glasgow and Dr Robert Taub, Music Director at The Arts Institute.

Concert: Schönberg, Berg and Webern
Performed by the Marmen Quartet and Erika Baikoff, soprano.
