Earth, Fire & Spirit: Bronze Age Landscape Exploration & Experience

'Earth Fire and Spirit' is a weekend hands-on exploration of the Dartmoor Bronze Age landscape and primitive pottery skills.

Beginning with a shared supper together on Friday evening in a recreated Bronze Age roundhouse, we will then immerse ourselves in the ruins of a Bronze Age settlement on Dartmoor, explore and dowse the sacred ritual landscape with Dartmoor's Daughter, and learn primitive pottery skills with Jim Hamer (Artist Craftsman).

The experience will be based within a well preserved Bronze Age settlement on High Dartmoor in the shadow of Kestor Rock above Chagford. You will have the opportunity to produce a range of clay pots and models and fire them in a primitive fire pit kiln. And you will be able to explore and experience through dowsing and earth energies, the many domestic and ritual Bronze Age relics, round houses, standing stones, ritual stone rows and circles.

About the organisers/facilitators:
Jim Hamer is a teacher of art, design technology and outdoor education. He is a practising Artist Craftsman, a qualified Mountain Leader, Climbing Instructor and Canoe Coach with over 40 years experience of providing creative and adventurous experiences for children and adults in the outdoors.

Pauline Hamer is an experienced dowser and moorland walker and has a deep love and respect for the sacred Dartmoor landscape.

Sally Cunis is a member of Devon Dowsers with 20+ years experience and interest in earth energies at sacred sites.

Emma Cunis is a Hill & Moorland Leader (HML). As 'Dartmoor's Daughter' she organises walks and activities that offering a deeper connection to self, others, and nature resulting in enhanced physical health, emotional wellbeing, and team performance. For 20 years, she led a corporate career in London, New York, Hong Kong, and Australia.

The organisation will be in association with 'Growing Our Future', an experiential and environmental education initiative, providing a range of creative, educational and recreational activities in the outdoors for children and adults seeking to fulfil their potential and to re-connect with the natural world.

What's included: Guided walks, talks, practical demonstrations, food, materials, instruction, camping and facilities (modern toilets and showers).

Accommodation options: Camping on site, within the garden of an isolated Dartmoor house in the shadows of stunning Kestor. Or a local B+B/pub accommodation list can be provided upon request. Please arrive by Friday 4pm to set up tents then we will travel to a recreated Bronze Age Roundhouse for our shared supper and opening evening together.

What to bring/wear: Dartmoor weather is highly changeable so please bring plenty of warm layers, sunscreen, waterproof jacket and trousers, sturdy hiking boots, swimsuit, towel, water bottle, flask if you want to carry a hot drink, head/torch, snacks, an apron. And a tent and camping gear if you wish to camp.

Level: 2 out of 5 - the walks will be mainly on paths on open moorland as well as some rough grass and rocky patches. You need no previous experience in pottery, art, or dowsing to join us - all are welcome!

Cancellation: The weekend will go ahead come rain or shine. We have indoor and outdoor options throughout the weekend. Sorry we cannot offer refunds if you are unable to attend.
