PART OF ENGLAND'S SEAFOOD FEAST 2024
Join us for a truly unique and immersive dining experience taking place at Britain’s oldest home, Kents Cavern Prehistoric Caves. Hosted by Flora, a passionate forager, herbalist, and amateur chef, the evening will celebrate a medley of diverse, seasonal and distinct flavours from the land and sea, that will both surprise and delight your tastebuds, from seaweed pasta, locally landed fish to an elderberry-inspired dessert. During dinner, you’ll experience a fusion of ancient and modern recipes, savouring foods that would have been readily available to your prehistoric ancestors.
Each dish on the menu is a tribute to our local landscape, prepared with foraged foods that have been harvested from local fields, shores and hedgerows. As part of England's Seafood Feast, you’ll experience the best of both foraged worlds, with our menu paying homage to the sea with a special fish course, as well as honouring the rich bounty of the land. But this intimate gathering is more than just a meal; it’s an opportunity to discover the rich provenance of each ingredient. Throughout the evening, you’ll be told some fascinating stories about our history of foraging and find out some surprising history and captivating folklore of some of the foraged ingredients that feature, from the ancient uses of some wild herbs to the cultural significance of certain mushrooms.
The evening will consist of a foraged cocktail on arrival, followed by an entertaining private cave tour (that will feature a foraged amuse bouche that you’ll taste in the dark). You’ll then be seated in Kents Cavern’s dining room for a candle-lit and atmospheric dinner that will consist of a wild four-course culinary journey and educational discovery. For each course, you will be served with an interesting tale - as well as talking about stories of nature’s bounty, you’ll get to see what some of the ingredients look like in their raw form. And don’t worry about missing out if you need another drink - our cave bar will be open. Join us for a night of unforgettable gastronomic discovery.
