A very special one-off extra concert for 2024 from the Whiddon Autumn Festival...
Global superstar cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason is joined by pianist duo partner and WAF favourite Harry Baker to present their unique programme "Bach & Beyond".
Few artists possess a musical influence as far-reaching and cross-disciplinary as J. S. Bach, and this fascinating examination of his legacy takes the audience on a journey from Janáček and Villa-Lobos to Bill Evans and Pat Metheny. Original works by J. S. Bach will include movements from the iconic Cello Suite No. 1 in G major, and will sit amongst arrangements and improvisations deeply rooted in Bach's timeless music.
Since winning the BBC Young Musician competition in 2016, Sheku Kanneh-Mason has rocketed to worldwide fame, and was awarded an MBE in the 2020 New Years Honours List at the age of just 20. He performed at the royal wedding of the Duke & Duchess of Sussex at Windsor Castle in 2018, has appeared at the BBC Proms every year since his debut in 2017, and is the first cellist ever to reach the UK Top 10 with his 2020 album Elgar.
Harry Baker is an award-winning British pianist and composer active at the highest levels of both jazz and classical performance. As a jazz musician, he has worked with Jamie Cullum, Misha Mullov-Abbado and others at venues including Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club and King's Place. As a classical pianist, he has performed at Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall and the Verbier Festival, in addition to media performances on BBC1&2 and BBC Radio 2.
