Forget Turkey and Roasties (or rather add to them!) – A Devon Pub Offers a Christmas Feast with a Twist!
If you're looking to shake up your festive dining plans this year, on of the world's oldest Inns is breaking with tradition.
The Old Exeter Inn in the ancient stannary town of Ashburton is doing Christmas a little differently—and it's guaranteed to delight.
Step into this charming, ancient inn with its low ceilings, glowing log burners, and the kind of candlelit cheer that could make even Dickens proud. But don't let the historic setting fool you; the menu is anything but ordinary.
This year's showstopper is the Festive Tavern Pie, a culinary marvel that takes the concept of Christmas dinner to new heights. Inside a golden shortcrust pastry hides a treasure trove of tender free-range chicken, bacon, chestnuts, creamed Brussels sprouts, and cranberry sauce. But wait—there's more! Your plate will also feature turkey, stuffing, roasties, parsnips, carrots, pigs in blankets, extra Brussels, Yorkshire pudding, and their famous rich red wine gravy. It's Christmas on a plate, and it's an absolute feast!
Vegetarians, fear not! The Yuletide Pie is equally indulgent, stuffed with chestnut mushrooms, sweet potato, and walnuts in truffle oil, served with all the festive trimmings.
Prices are refreshingly reasonable too, with two courses for £28.95 or three for £33.95.
If you're tired of the same old turkey and trimmings, why not give the Old Exeter Inn's festive menu a try? Great food, great company, and a touch of Christmas magic—what more could you ask for?
The Old Exeter Inn is one of the oldest Inns, and the very place from where Sir Walter Raleigh was arrested for treason in 1603 before being taken to the Tower of London! It oozes history and old world charm. And pies!
Christmas: two courses for £28.95 or three for £33.95
