Description

Drake's Trail Cycling Spur 1 - Yelverton to Burrator and Clearbrook - 12 miles This route passes through the scenic village of Meavy before climbing to a path giving superb views of Dartmoor and south towards Plymouth. The route completes a circuit of Burrator Reservoir before following country lanes to Clearbrook and returning along the off road Drake's Trail route. The route takes aroun 2 1/2 hours, and is mainly on minor roads, and some sections of cycle trail. There are some gradual climbs, and occasional steeper climbs.

Cycle Waypoints

    Leave Yelverton on Meavy road to the right of the shop headnig slightly downhill.
  2. 2 Turn left into Meavy Lane.
  3. 3 Cycle into Meavy, turning left at the village green, past the pub and up the hill.
  4. 4 Turn left at the top of this lane, and continue uphill.
  5. 5 Turn right over a cattle grid towards Burrator Dam.
  6. 6 After about 700m follow the wooden 'Cycle Path' sign that forks on your left.

    Keep left at the bend and onto the old railway line.
  8. 8 At the end of the path, turn right onto the road.

    At the bottom of the road, turn left joining the round reservoir road.

  12. 12 At the junction, turn left towards Sheepstor.
  13. 13 Opposite the monument, turn right and proceed up the big hill.
  14. 14 Bear right at a T-junction.
  15. 15 At the next junction turn right, back down towards Meavy.
  16. 16 Turn left by Meavy School.
  17. 17 Go through Meavy and turn left following the NCN27 signs to Clearbrook.
  18. 18 Carefully cross the main road contuing along the road directly opposite.
  19. 19 On reaching Hoo Meavy at the end of the road, turn right to cycle uphill through the village of Clearbrook, passing a pub on your right.

    At the brow of the hill, opposite a road on the left, turn right onto the off-road NCN27 Drake's Trail route.

    Follow the cycle path through the old walled tramway.

    Continue to follow the NCN27 and Drake's Trail signs along the paths back to Yelverton.
  24. 24 The path emerges at a carpark next to the church at the top of Meavy Lane.
