The 3 AA Rosette Great Western Restaurant is the fine dining restaurant at Bovey Castle, named after the hotels previous owners the Great Western Railways, who opened Bovey Castle as a hotel in the 1930’s.

The Great Western restaurant overseen by Executive Head Chef, Mark Budd focuses on modern British dishes, including: ‘South Coast Rock Pool’, with seared, hand-dived scallops, cockles, clams and oyster emulsion; whole roast young grouse; Brixham crab and line-caught mackerel; and smoked rib-eye of Devon Red beef.

For dinners looking try a selection of dishes in the Great Western, the 7-course tasting menu is the perfect combination of dishes offer and can be accompanied with wine pairings.

The Great Western Restaurant also serves a traditional Sunday lunch, with a varied selection of locally-sourced meat, fish and vegetarian options.

Bovey Castle’s Great Western Restaurant awarded 3 AA Rosettes

We are delighted that the Great Western Restaurant has been awarded three rosettes by the AA for its culinary excellence. Restaurants with the coveted three rosettes are deemed to be outstanding establishments that demand recognition well beyond their local area and just 10% of the AA’s restaurants achieve this level.

Road Directions

The M4 from London, the M6 from the North West and the M1/M42 from the North East all link up with the M5, which will bring you south to Devon. From the M5, take junction 31 signposted A30 Okehampton. Stay on the A30 for 16 miles, exiting at Whiddon Down and the junction signposted Moretonhampstead  A382. The road passes by a service station with a garage on the right, at the first roundabout turn left, still following signs for Moretonhampstead A382. Stay on the A382 for 5.5 miles and at the roundabout just before Moretonhampstead, turn right to follow signs for Postbridge and Princetown, marked B3212. At the mini roundabout, go straight over and at the next roundabout, turn right again and follow signs for Postbridge and Princetown, B3212.

Stay on the B3212 for approximately 1.5 miles, Bovey Castle is on the left-hand side marked by large wrought iron gates and a lodge.
